  • The Writing Room undertakes to provide a one-off independent appraisal or report as described in our services page on our website for a specified fee. If any aspect of the appraisal/report is unclear the client may seek clarification from the editor/reader responsible for the assessment.
  • The Writing Room reserve the right to select the best editor/reader to appraise your work, after our initial consultation with you. You will be informed of the choice as soon as possible.  
  • We reserve the right to return your work and payment to you should we fail to find a suitable editor/reader.
  • Appraisals/reports are normally completed within 4 to 6 weeks and we do our best to achieve that. However we cannot guarantee this.
  • Typescripts MUST be submitted by email only (unless other arrangements have been specifically made). The fee you are quoted includes a printing fee. The typescript should be double-spaced, in a 12 point font such as Times New Roman. Each page should be numbered.
  • Your work will always be treated in the strictest confidence.
  • You retain copyright in your work at all times.
  • The copyright of the appraisal/report remains with The Writing Room. Permission should be sought from The Writing Room before quoting from an appraisal/report, for example to agents or on personal websites.
  • The Writing Room undertaking to assess your work is not an undertaking to publish or represent your work either through The McKernan Agency or any other literary agency or publisher.
  • On some occasions we may consider it appropriate to suggest or recommend a publisher or literary agent but only in full consultation with the client.
